With deep sadness, our family announces our mother’s passing on January 1, 2026, at the Kennebec Nursing Home in Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB, on September 1, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Cyrille and Eileen (nee Carty) Gillis.

Mom attended Simonds Regional but graduated from Mt. Carmel Business School (Sisters of Charity). From the stories mom told us, she was quite the prankster, spunky and gave the nuns a run for their money. Throughout mom’s career, she worked at Woolco in the office and as a secretary at K.C. Irving at Rothesay paper. She also worked at Ryans Construction for 13 years, Industrial Security, Read Saint John, Cox’s store and retired at FCC Engineering. She also volunteered for the Catholic Organization delivering adopted babies to new homes.

In mom’s younger years, she belonged to a ladies Rommoli Club and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Mom had lots of friends and loved socializing a great deal before she lost her hearing. One of her best friends was Anne Marie Elliott who she loved dearly, and when they got together it was hours and hours of talking and catching up. Her other good friends were Anna Claire Edgett, Joan Lawrence, Sherri D., Anita Green, and many Lakewood neighbors and countless others to name. Back in the 70’s for quite a few years, mom and dad would rent a cottage every summer in Pointe-Du-Chene, close to Shediac. We would all hang out with other family members that had a cottage close by, played mini golf and our family favorite destination was Parlee Beach.

Mom and Dad always enjoyed their trips to Ottawa to see Michael and his wife Ena, and their children Logan and Hannah. They would have beautiful meals that Ena cooked and lots of fun and good quality time. After Dad passed away in 2017, Mom was finding it more difficult to live on her own and broke her hip and needed to go to a nursing home in January 2018. It was not an easy transition, but mom accepted this was going to be her new life and using her social skills, she made a few friends and got along well with all the staff. We encouraged her to participate in activities and Bingo became her favorite game. She loved winning treats for prizes. She also loved her Werther’s candies and when anyone was visiting would bring her a butterscotch ice cream sundae, that was her favorite and she would enjoy every bite.

Throughout the years, mom enjoyed all of the family gatherings, and dancing at the Lebanese hall, weddings and birthday parties, etc, but most importantly she loved and enjoyed her family.

Although this is a sad time, losing our mom, we are relieved that she is no longer in pain and hopefully dancing up a storm with our dad and many other family members that have passed. We will miss you mom, but we know you are happy and free.

Mom is survived by her son Michael Gaudet (Ena); daughter Michelle Wisted (Jeff); grandchildren Dylan Hurley (Chelsea), Caley Hayward (Ryan), Logan Gaudet (Bridget), Maggie Hurley (Brad), Hannah Graham (Connor); step children Ryan Wisted (Jessica), Steven Wisted; great grandchildren Riley, Mila, Skylar, Liam, Emma, Eli, Lilly, Leah, Sunny, Lucy, Lukas, Parker Jane, and Owen, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and sister-in-law Denise Gillis.

Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband Ronnie Gaudet, brothers Paul Gillis, David Gillis (Sally Gillis), sisters Shirley Mackin (Paul), and Theresa Cummings.

We want to say a special Thank You to all of the staff at Kennebec Manor who gave amazing care and treated mom with respect and dignity right to the end. She loved them all and they loved her back.
