Police say they arrested a 41-year-old man for firearms offences after an incident in the west end of St. John’s on Thursday.
In a statement on Friday, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said around 10 a.m. NT on New Year’s Day, officers responded to a report of a firearms offence at a Barachois Street home.
“Responding officers contained the residence and cleared it with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit and the RCMP. A male occupant of the residence was arrested without incident,” the statement said.
The Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services are also helping with the investigation.
The RNC said a search warrant at the property turned up a firearm, brass knuckles, stun gun and soft body armour. The items were seized as part of the investigation.
The statement said no injuries were reported.
The man was held to appear in court on eight charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and trafficking in weapons.
