The 2026 Sudbury Polar Plunge is taking place on March 7, during which hundreds of people are anticipated to jump into the frozen Ramsey Lake

An online fundraiser has been set up to accompany Greater Sudbury Police Services Chief Sara Cunningham’s leap into Ramsey Lake.

Cunningham is slated to be the first of hundreds of people to jump into Ramsey Lake on March 7 as part of this year’s event.

The Cunningham fundraiser is available by clicking here, and joins other general and team fundraisers as part of this year’s event, which raises money for the Special Olympics.

For more information about donations, click here. As of mid-day Tuesday, they’d raised $1,165 of a $50,000 goal.

There’s also a too chicken to plunge raffle and a 50/50 draw, for which more is information available by clicking here. As of mid-day Tuesday, the 50/50 draw had hit a payout of $1,437.50.

GSPS Staff Sgt. Hally Willmott pledged that this year’s event would take place no matter what, even if they have to resort to jumping in a tank instead of Ramsey Lake like they did in 2024.
