The conservation authority says ice jams in the Grand River have increased water levels that are approached flooding thresholds for Gilkison Street and the trails through Gilkison Flats.

Local flood coordinators have been advised to monitor conditions and notify affected property owners.

The flood warning follows the warm, wet weather of last weekend which led to significant runoff and increased water levels and flows in the river.

The conditions led to the break up of ice sheets that had formed earlier in the winter and have moved through the river systems, the conservation authority said in a statement released Saturday morning.

Ice jams are setting in place in slow-moving reaches of watercourses including the Grand River through Brantford.
