Washington Capitals power forward Tom Wilson departed Saturday’s shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in the first period with a lower-body injury and wasn’t able to return to action after being listed as questionable.

Following the game, head coach Spencer Carbery said the team will know more on Sunday, but added it “doesn’t look too bad.”

The 31-year-old Wilson, who was named to Canada’s Olympic hockey team earlier this week, was injured when ‘Hawks defenceman Connor Murphy threw a surprising hit on Wilson behind the Chicago net late in the first, causing Wilson to fall awkwardly on his right foot/leg.

Wilson skated gingerly to the bench and needed help to get to the dressing room.

A native of Toronto, Wilson is on pace for a career season in 2025-26, scoring 22 goals and 20 assists over 41 games. His best season came last year when he netted 33 goals and 32 assists over 81 games.

Selected 16th overall in 2012, Wilson has spent his entire 13-year NHL career in Washington, recording 201 goals and 236 assists over 876 games.

Wilson helped the Caps win their first and only Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2018.
