Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) joined forces to ensure public safety during the opening days of the winter fishing season at Lake Nipissing.
As the ice fishing season kicked off on January 1, authorities ramped up presence on Lake Nipissing with a four-day joint enforcement operation targeting snowmobile safety and impaired driving.
The OPP and the MNR partnered to conduct joint motorized snow vehicle enforcement on Lake Nipissing and surrounding areas.
Over a four-day period, officers focused on safety, compliance, and impaired driving prevention as part of ongoing efforts to keep waterways safe throughout the winter months.
Between Thursday, January 1, and Sunday, January 4, Â officers conducted extensive patrols, resulting in:
995 individuals checked
Four remote camps inspected
326 ice shacks checked
8 Provincial Offence Notices issued
81 warnings issued
1 impaired driving arrest
Offences and warnings were issued under the Criminal Code, Liquor Licence and Control Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Motorized Snow Vehicle Act, and Off-Road Vehicles Act.
