The Vancouver Giants acquired forward Mathis Preston and a conditional second-round pick in the 2029 WHL Prospects Draft from the Spokane Chiefs, in exchange for defenceman Marek Howell, forward Tyus Sparks and a first-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, the teams announced on Monday.
Preston has 14 goals and 18 assists in 36 games with the Chiefs this season.
The 17-year-old contributed 45 points in 54 games last season with Spokane.
The draft-eligible forward also recently participated in the CHL USA Prospects Challenge, where he had a goal and two assists.
Howell scored four goals and added six assists in 40 games this season with the Giants.
Sparks had 16 goals and 21 assists in 40 contests for the Giants during the 2025-26 season.
The Preston deal was just one on a busy day of transactions for the Giants.
Earlier on Monday they completed three separate trades that saw them acquire two players and seven draft picks.
They picked up forward Joe Iginla and a conditional third-round pick in 2028 from the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Iginla is the son of Hockey Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla and the younger brother of Kelowna Rockets and Team Canada forward Tij Iginla.
The Giants also added defenceman Kaleb Hartmann, a first-round pick in 2026, a first-round pick in 2028, a conditional second-round pick in 2027, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027 from the Seattle Thunderbirds.
They also picked up a second-round pick in 2026 from the Swift Current Broncos.
