ORIGINAL STORY

City police have charged a 47-year-old Barrie woman with first-degree murder in the death of her 10-year-old son, who was found deceased after officers responded to a well-being check at a south-end home on New Year’s Eve.

Police said when officers arrived at the Tamarack Woods residence, located in the Bayview Drive and Little Avenue area, at approximately 3 p.m. on Dec. 31, the woman was also found inside and was taken to local hospital.

Once she was cleared medically, investigators laid the charge on Tuesday. She has been remanded into custody.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Police say the woman’s name will not be released due to a publication ban.

No other details have been released.

Officers from the major crime unit and the forensic identification unit continue to investigate, however due to the nature of the incident and to respect the privacy of the family involved, updates will only be provided as the investigation permits.
