Whitney Shefte will be based in Washington, serving as the lead cinematographer for our D.C.-based news video shoots, including field, podcast video, and reporter video productions. In addition to working with other video journalists, producers, reporters and editors to plan and shoot visually compelling pieces, Whitney will supervise our Washington bureau video studio space and technical upkeep.

Most recently, Whitney worked as an independent filmmaker and video journalist with publications including The New York Times, Time, Business Insider, Bloomberg and PBS “NewsHour.” Previously, she spent over a decade as a senior video journalist at The Washington Post, where she reported on the war in Ukraine, climate change in Greenland, the conflict in Western Sahara and press access challenges in Pakistan. Her work has been recognized with a Peabody Award, multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards and several Emmy nominations. Whitney also spent eight years as president of the White House News Photographers Association, representing visual journalists.

She is a North Carolina native and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
