Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been linked with another shock move to Saudi Arabia. The midfielder rejected a huge offer to join Al-Hilal earlier in the summer after putting a lucrative contract on the table.

Fernandes, 30, was understood to be considering a deal to leave United and move to the Saudi Pro League. Immediately after the Europa League defeat to Tottenham, the Portugal international said he would leave if the club wanted him to.

However, after discussing the matter with his family, Fernandes opted to stay at United and rejected the proposal. “Manchester United said they didn’t want to sell me,” he said in June.

“They said if I wanted to go I could, but they didn’t need the money. I spoke to coach Ruben Amorim who, throughout that period, he was pushing for me not to go.”

Despite stating his intention to play at the “highest possible level”, Fernandes did describe a move to Saudi as “easy” with several Portuguese players currently there. Now, Portuguese news outlet A Bola is reporting that Al-Nassr are considering a blockbuster move.

The report has claimed that the club are considering tabling a bid with new head coach Jorge Jesus, who gave Fernandes his debut at Sporting CP in 2017, wanting to add him to the current Portuguese contingent at the Al-Awwal Park with Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Otavia already there.

After previously rejecting a move to the Middle East and confirming his intention of playing at the highest level, a move for Fernandes isn’t likely to occur this summer. However, the financial packages offered by clubs in Saudi have turned the heads of some of the world’s top players.

United have a number of players available for sale this window with Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony all expected to be sold. With two weeks until the Premier League season begins, it would take a blockbuster move for United and Fernandes to consider the move.
