Under the tentative agreements, we’ve secured improvements to Urban and RSMC
wages since CPC’s offers presented on October 3. For the first year, we’ll get
an extra 0.5% bump. The 3% increase for Year 2 is tracking above inflation.

In years 3-5, our wage increase will be equal to the average annual increase
in the all-items Consumer Price Index (CPI). This means that our wages will be
protected from inflation. If inflation goes up 3%, our wages will go up 3%. If
inflation goes up 4%, so will our wages. To calculate the wage increase, the
reference period will be from October to the following September. This is the
same method and reference period used to calculate increases to pensions for
retirees on the defined benefit pension.

The CPI is the same measure of inflation that we used to calculate COLA
payments. The CPI measures price changes by comparing the prices of a wide
basket of goods and services over time, including food, shelter,
transportation, among others.

All of this income will be pensionable – unlike a signing bonus or a COLA
payment. Also, unlike COLA payments, these increases will be folded into our
wages, are pensionable, and they will apply to overtime hours. Temporary
employees who did not receive COLA payments will also receive these wage
increases.

Wage Retroactivity

These increases will be retroactive to the first date of the new collective
agreements. Members will receive back pay for all hours they’ve worked since
January 1, 2024 (RSMC) or February 1, 2024 (Urban) – minus the 5% raise that
has already been paid.

More Information to Come

Members’ determination over the past two years has allowed us to secure these
improvements to our wage offers. As we prepare for our ratification votes in
the weeks ahead, we’ll make sure to keep members informed. These tentative
agreements will only become our collective agreements once they’re voted on
and approved by the membership.
