Kamloops RCMP are escalating their call for the public’s help in their investigation into the sudden death of West End resident Muhammad “Ash” Zafar.
“This includes individuals who use men‑seeking‑men dating sites or apps and may have communicated with him, or with someone using his images or profile information,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the Kamloops RCMP in a press release.
“We are also appealing to anyone who noticed unusual behaviour in someone they know, such as unexplained injuries, sudden changes in routine, cancelled plans, or conduct that seemed out of character,” he stated.
On Tuesday, The RCMP Major Crime Unit announced they are investigating Zafar’s death as a possible murder, based on the evidence gathered to date.
Police said frontline officers were conducting a wellness check at a residence on Dalgleish Drive in Kamloops’ West End on Monday, and found the body of Muhammad “Ash” Zafar.
Also on Tuesday, Kamloops RCMP said the death appeared to be isolated and there was no ongoing risk to the public. Then, on Wednesday they reminded members of the public to take precautions when meeting new people through online platforms.
Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit said it is working to establish a timeline of Zafar’s movements and interactions leading up to what investigators describe as a “sudden death.”
“We are asking anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Zafar, or who may have information about his social network, activities, or associates, to reach out to investigators,” McIntyre said.
“Even small details can assist us in understanding the events leading up to this incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250‑828‑3000 and reference file number 2026‑388. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑TIPS (8477).
