Planners also said they wanted to see “high quality active travel infrastructure” that connected to surrounding networks, public transport links and recreational areas.

At a full council meeting on Monday, councillors gave the go-ahead for a six-week public consultation on modifications made to the SWDPR by government inspectors.

Councillor Adam Scott said he welcomed the inclusion of Navigation Road in the document as “the land has come to the end of its industrial life”.

Other housing allocations featured in the plan include land off Oak View Way, Bromyard Road, earmarked for 120 homes.

The SWDPR includes allocations of 10 more homes for the old Royal Porcelain works, 40 homes for the site of the old Sansome Walk Swimming Pool and 24 homes for land off Brickfields Road.

It also identifies mixed-use sites including Lowesmoor Wharf, which would provide 100 homes, and Shrub Hill Quarter, which it says would provide 900 homes including student accommodation and “care units”.

Key locations for development in south Worcestershire include the plans for Wychavon Town and Rushwick, while Throckmorton has been removed as a proposed site for housing and employment.
