There are still no trains running between Sheffield and Manchester after TransPennine Express (TPE) closed the line on Thursday ahead of Storm Goretti.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Rob Cox, operations director for the train operator, said there were currently no services running between the two cities or intermediary stations along the Hope Valley line.

He said shuttle services were running from Sheffield to the east and from Manchester to the west.

“If people need to get to North West they will need to take a train to Leeds and then catch a train via there.”

Cox said the decision to shut the line was a result of the amber weather alert and had been made for “the safety of passengers and staff”.

He added; “We are monitoring the situation and doing what we can to clear the line so we can get trains running again.”

Cox said if people were unable to make the journey they had planned then they were entitled to compensation.
