Provincial police have lifted a shelter-in-place Saturday in Simcoe, Ont., which was in place while officers responded to an active incident involving potentially multiple armed suspects.

In a news release Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police said Colborne Street N., Union Street, Young Street and Kent Street were closed for an ongoing investigation.

In an update Saturday, the OPP said officers responded to a call at a Kent Street N. address for a report of weapons where a firearm was suspected to have been discharged at approximately 12:58 p.m.

No injuries were reported and police are continuing the investigation, the OPP said in Saturday’s update.

Members of the public in the area were asked to seek shelter immediately, lock all doors and windows, close curtains or blinds and proceed directly to their destination if driving, the OPP said in Saturday’s release.

Provincial police also asked residents to not approach or engage with the suspect and to not pick up hitchhikers.

Residents who were not in the affected area were asked to avoid travelling to the area. The OPP said the public could expect to see an increased police presence.

“We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter in place can cause,” the OPP said in Saturday’s release. “The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
