Calgary police say a 52-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of her mother.
Police were called to a home in the southwest community of Canyon Meadows Thursday morning for reports of a deceased woman. The following day, the death of 83-year-old Sharon Helene Roberts was deemed a homicide.
On Friday, police arrested Roberts’ daughter, Tonnya Marisse, in a southwest Calgary residence about 20 kilometres from where the death was reported.
Marisse faces one count of second-degree murder, and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Police said there are no other suspects, and they won’t comment further for privacy reasons.
“It breaks my heart,” Canyon Meadows resident Colleen Hust told CBC News. “It’s a horrible thing to happen so close to home.”
The case marks the first homicide reported in Calgary in 2026.
