Snow, Rain, Ice Pellets Forecast For Island Tonight

Another storm system is expected to bring a mix of snow, freezing rain and rain to many parts of the island, starting this evening and continuing through to Tuesday morning.

Special weather statements are in effect from St. John’s to Corner Brook.

The west coast is forecast to get up to 35 cm of snow while central Newfoundland through to the Avalon and Burin peninsulas can expect up to 15 cm of snow followed by a transition to freezing rain, ice pellets and heavy rainfall.

Easterly winds will gust up to 80 km/h in most areas and as high as 130 km/h or more on the west coast.

Justin Boudreau of Environment Canada says all of the island will get a piece of the storm, but the Northern Peninsula will get some of the toughest conditions.

He says while portions of the west coast is expecting the brunt of the snow, the south coast will get the majority of the rain, with up to 35 mm on the way.
