Our Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred late last night on Deerfoot Trail.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, a 2008 Nissan Altima, driven by a man in his 50s, was northbound on Deerfoot Trail, approaching Glenmore Trail N.E., in the lane closest to the median. The Altima exited the road and collided with a construction barrier, causing the vehicle’s engine to eject from the vehicle and bounce into the adjacent lane of traffic.

A Toyota Rav4 was also travelling north on Deerfoot Trail at the same time and struck the Altima’s engine.

The driver of the Altima was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the Rav4 was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Speed, alcohol and drugs are being investigated as factors on the part of the Altima driver.
