A temporary new road will ensure customers can still get to a pub which would otherwise be cut off during the construction of flood defences.

The Environment Agency has applied for permission to create a short access route to the Grade II-listed Yew Tree pub in Walton-le-Dale, Lancashire.

Motorists currently reach it from Victoria Road – part of which will be shut for the flood defence works.

Plans have been submitted to South Ribble Borough Council, proposing a 25m (27yd) section of footpath near the A6 be dug up and replaced with a road that would connect to an existing loading bay that runs alongside the pub.
