The North Bay Police Service has officially opened registration for its annual Polar Plunge, set to return on March 7, 2026. The chilly tradition supports Special Olympics Ontario and aims to raise $50,000

The countdown is on: The North Bay Police Service has announced that its signature winter fundraiser—the Polar Plunge—will take place on March 7 with proceeds going toward the city’s hosting of the Provincial Winter Games.

The annual event brings together individuals, organizations, and businesses to take the plunge into icy waters for a great cause.

“The Polar Plunge is a great opportunity for the community to have fun and support Special Olympics athletes,” said Cst. Merv Shantz, NBPS Games Manager for the 2027 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games. “This year, every dollar raised will help us deliver an incredible experience for the 2027 Provincial Winter Games and support our local Special Olympics athletes.”

All funds raised will directly support the 2027 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games hosted in North Bay by NBPS. The goal for this year’s event is $50,000.

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, March 7

Check-in: 11 a.m.

Plunge Starts: 12:30 p.m.

Location: Nipissing University Student Union Parking Lot, 221 College Drive

Amenities: Indoor changerooms, washrooms, lunch available for purchase, on-site prize draws

“The Polar Plunge has become a long-standing North Bay tradition that supports Special Olympics and, most importantly, athlete equality, inclusion, and wellness,” said Chief Daryl Longworth. “This event is a powerful demonstration of what our community can accomplish when we come together.”

Individuals and teams are welcome to participate. Plungers are encouraged to spread the word and challenge others to take the plunge and get #FreezinForAReason.
