An off-duty York Regional police officer was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision in Bradford, Ont., that snarled traffic on Highway 400 Tuesday morning.
It happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. near Simcoe County Road 88. Ontario Provincial Police say a transport truck, a pickup truck, and an SUV were involved.
One other person was transported to hospital with minor injuries, the OPP said.
The northbound lanes of the highway are expected to be closed for several hours as an investigation gets underway.
It’s unclear what caused the crash.

CP24 Traffic Reporter Lisa Morales says that, at time of writing, no vehicles are getting past the scene of the crash.
“You can see all the vehicles stuck behind this collision. What a frustrating morning for those drivers. They have not moved or been allowed to move since this collision transpired,” she said.

Morales suggested motorists try alternate routes like Yonge Street, 5th Side Road, or 10 Sideroad and get back on the 400 from Highway 89.
Speaking from the scene, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said crews are working to clear the highway so traffic can get through.
“We have debris and damaged vehicles across all lanes,” he said.
