RCMP in Nova Scotia have taken into custody a man who was the subject of an emergency alert Tuesday morning.

RCMP issued the alert about a man with a firearm driving along a rural highway in Hants County just after 9 a.m.

Police said the man was driving a blue Honda Civic and was headed northbound on Highway 236 in the area of Stanley, N.S., and Clarksville.

At the time of the alert, police urged people in the area to find shelter, stay inside and lock their doors and windows.

At 9:44, police issued a statement saying the man had been apprehended near Highway 202 and Highway 236, and there was no longer a public safety risk.
