New Trial Dates for Woman Accused of Animal Cruelty to be Confirmed Next Week

Yet another delay in the trial for a west coast woman facing dozens of animal cruelty allegations.

Fifty-year-old Michelle Young is charged with 44 counts of causing “unnecessary pain, suffering or injury” to farm animals on her property in Heatherton, near Robinsons.

Young was first charged in April of 2023, a year after more than a dozen animals were found either dead, starving or unable to walk.

A four-day trial was supposed to start last summer but was postponed when Young and her Legal Aid lawyer parted ways.

She has since re-applied for Legal Aid, and has agreed to accept responsibility for the delays since then, waiving her right to the Jordan rule.

Young’s case will be called again next week for an update on her lawyer, and to confirm new dates for her trial.
