At approximately 10:25 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, officers observed a vehicle being driven in a suspicious manner in the area of 7th Avenue and Elphinstone Street.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, disregarding traffic signs and signals. Police resources, including the Aerial Support Unit (ASU), monitored the vehicle as it briefly travelled outside the city before returning. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed, causing the vehicle to slow; however, the driver continued to disregard traffic controls. The vehicle was subsequently abandoned, and the occupants were picked up by a second vehicle. Officers located a shotgun barrel and .22 calibre ammunition inside the abandoned vehicle.

A second tire deflation device was deployed on the involved pickup vehicle. One male fled on foot and was safely apprehended with the assistance of a Police Service Dog. He was transported to hospital and treated for minor injuries consistent with a dog bite.
