As work continues to return the Bearspaw feeder main to service, Calgary city officials say they anticipate fully reopening eastbound 16th Avenue N.W., ahead of the Wednesday morning commute.
Westbound lanes will reopen in phases, starting with the inside lane.
The City of Calgary said westbound traffic remains closed for now, with short-term closures expected in Montgomery and Bowness as crews continue work.
Westbound traffic along the street has been closed since the pipe burst on Dec. 30, significantly flooding the street and stranding several vehicles.
Crews started refilling the pipe over the weekend and testing is underway to ensure the water is safe for consumption. Once that work is complete, the city said it will slowly start to connect the feeder main to the larger network.
After the system is deemed stable, the city said it will lift water restrictions.
Daily water use sat at 503 million litres on Monday, close to about 20 million litres more than what’s considered sustainable. Officials are encouraging Calgarians to try to save between 25 to 30 litres per person each day.
Officials have urged residents to reduce their water use by taking shorter showers and reducing toilet flushes so that enough water is available for emergency services like firefighting.
The city said it expects to share more details on timelines for lifting water restrictions and repair work on Wednesday.
