The countdown to the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts is heating up following the conclusion of the provincial and territorial playdowns on Sunday.
All 18 teams have been determined following the confirmation that Manitoba’s Team Kaitlyn Lawes, who lost the provincial final earlier this month, was named as the third and final points-based team thanks to their position on the Canadian Team Ranking System.
Five provinces declared their champions on Sunday.
Selena Sturmay is an Alberta champion for the second time after defeating Team Selena Gray-Withers, 9-5, in the provincial final.
At the Saskatchewan playdowns, Team Jolene Campbell got the better of Team Jana Tisdale, 4-3, to punch their ticket to Mississauga, Ont.
Scotties veteran Krista Scharf is headed to her 13th career national championship following her team’s 9-7 victory over Team Robyn Despins in the Northern Ontario final.
Ontario had a surprising result as two-time defending champ Danielle Inglis and her Ottawa foursome were blown out by Whitby’s Team Hailey Armstrong, 10-3, in the final.
Halifax’s Team Taylour Stevens are headed to their first Tournament of Hearts after winning Nova Scotia with a 12-5 win over Team Isabelle Ladouceur.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts runs from Jan. 23-Feb. 1 at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga, Ont.
