Surrey, B.C., police say homicide investigators will now look into the case of a man who was found dead in a rural area of the city on Tuesday.

In a Tuesday statement, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) said that they were first called to the 3500-block of 176 Street just after noon on Tuesday.

There, they found the body of a man who had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say that a nearby vehicle fire, around five kilometres away in the 18900-block of 40 Avenue, is likely related to the fatal shooting.

SPS says that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now taking charge of the investigation into the man’s death.

No further details of his identity were released.

Anyone with dashcam footage of the area of either the vehicle fire or the location where the man’s body was discovered, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, is asked to call investigators.
