The Dodge Charger Sixpack — made in Windsor, Ont. — has been named Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mich.
The Charger, which started rolling off the line in December, had already won several other awards, including TopGear’s U.S. car of the year and The Detroit News’ vehicle of the year.
The other two nominees for the Car of the Year Award were:
Honda Prelude: Hybrid only for 2026. It returns as a sporty hybrid coupe, built in Japan.Nissan Sentra: Built in Mexico.
Sam Klemet, executive director of the Detroit Auto Show, said he’s pleased to see Windsor-Detroit represented, and vehicles featured that were made in the area.
“We want to honour the men and women that work in this industry,” he said, and who put their “blood, sweat and tears” into designing, engineering and building the vehicles.
“Our show is an opportunity to thank them and celebrate them and their achievements and their work. Having vehicles that are made here in Detroit, in Windsor, it matters.”

“We don’t need cars made in Canada. We don’t need cars made in Mexico. We want to make them here and that’s what’s happening.”
The auto show is happening at Huntington Park in downtown Detroit. It’s open to the public Jan. 17-25.
