Ruben Amorim’s relationship with Wilcox had broken down in recent weeks and the 40-year-old former United manager was finally axed by the Premier League club.

The ex-Sporting CP head coach’s exit at Old Trafford left former Man Utd midfielder Darren Fletcher to step up as caretaker manager in the immediate aftermath.
