A 55-year-old man is charged with multiple offences after police say a teenaged girl was sexually assaulted on multiple occasions at his Winnipeg home.
Between February and Dec. 30, 2025, the teen was given drugs and alcohol and during one incident, the girl suffered an overdose that could have been fatal, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
She was assaulted and choked on several occasions, resulting in minor injuries not requiring medical attention, the release states.
The teen told someone about the assault and police were contacted. The man was arrested Jan. 9 and charged with sexual interference, administering a noxious substance and assault.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information, or who wishes to speak with an investigator is asked to call the child abuse unit at 204-986-3296.
Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or submitted online.
The man’s arrest came one day after Winnipeg police arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him in an online sextortion case involving a teenage girl in Belgium.
Police say the teens had been in contact for about a year, during which the boy coerced the girl into sending him the images.
He then posted the images online without her consent and between Oct. 4, 2025, and Nov. 30, 2025, he harassed and extorted the girl by demanded money in order for him to stop posting the images, police say.
The girl reported the sextortion to police in Belgium who helped get the images removed. The Canadian Centre for Child Protection alerted the Winnipeg police’s internet child exploitation unit.
The boy was arrested at a home in the city’s Point Douglas neighbourhood.
