B.C.’s civilian-led police watchdog is investigating after a fatal police shooting in Burnaby, B.C., on Tuesday.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) confirms the death happened near Oxford Street and North Gilmore Avenue.
According to the IIO, RCMP officers responded to a call of a person in distress at a home around 8 p.m. PT.
Officers told the IIO that they encountered one woman, who was reportedly in possession of weapons, and police fired their guns after an interaction.
“The woman suffered gunshot injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” an IIO statement reads.
