A drunken man sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy on his way home from school. Peter Myers, 57, boasted that he was a professional boxer called “Big P” before groping the child as he sat on a wall.
The incident occurred in July 2024, when Myers, of Ringcroft Road in Broadgreen, approached the victim and his 11-year-old friend as they were walking home from school. The boys said they did not know Myers, but had seen him several days earlier when they were discussing jumping into the docks.
Myers spoke to the children, telling them they were “smart” for not jumping into the water. The children walked away, but were followed by Myers, who continued trying to talk to them.
The boys noticed the 57-year-old wore an orthopaedic boot and asked what had happened to his foot. Myers replied: “It was when I was f****** kicking a scally’s head in in Liverpool last week.”
At Liverpool Crown Court today, January 15, prosecutor Gareth Roberts said Myers became “increasingly physical” with the boys, grabbing at them with both hands.
He said: “The boys said he then started to tell [the victim] how handsome he was while touching his body, including his bottom.” The children also said Myers referred to the 11-year-old as “sexy kecks”.
Mr Roberts continued: “He told them his name was ‘Big P’. He told them he was a professional boxer and offered to pay for [the victim] to train at the gym.
“[The victim] sat on a wall and the defendant continued to talk to [them]. He grabbed [the victim’s] hand and put his hand on his thigh.”

Several days later, a teacher at the boys’ school overheard the pair talking about what had happened, and asked them to write a report for the school’s safeguarding team. The boys’ parents were alerted and police were called.
An examination of CCTV footage identified Myers, and he was arrested and interviewed on August 11 2024. He initially denied talking with the boys because “it was too dangerous to speak to teenagers”, but later admitted he had spoken to them after being shown the CCTV. However, he denied any assault had taken place.
He appeared for trial at Liverpool Crown Court in December 2025, and was found guilty of one count of sexual assault of a child under 13. He appeared back in the docks today, January 15, for sentence.
Mr Roberts said: “[The victim’s mum] says he used to he a member of a boxing club but now he’s scared he might bump into the defendant. He’s terrified the defendant might come into the gym while he’s there or he may see him in the area. This has had an awful impact. Not only was it a physical outlet, it was a safe place where he could meet with his friends and burn off energy.”
Charles Lander, defending Myers, said: “Clearly he was drunk when he committed the offence, but he doesn’t drink alcohol any more. An option for the court is an alcohol abstinence requirement.
“Sentence has been delayed due to his ill health. He has letters from the hospital.”
Sentencing, Judge David Potter said: “There came a point where [the victim] sat on a low wall and, as the court saw, there came a point where you grabbed his hand and then placed your hand on his thigh. That is the extent of the assault.”
He added: “There are no other aggravating factors in this case but it’s significant that you are a man of 57 with no other convictions for offences of a sexual nature, and since and before your conviction you have been in very poor health.
“I have read the victim statement of the boy’s mother. He used to be an avid and keen boxer but, being scared of bumping into you or you coming into his gym, he has given up something he had loved, and is now much more at home, feeling that is the only safe place for him. That’s not fair on him and it affects his life and the life of his family as a result.”
He sentenced Myers to a two-year community order, 30 rehabilitation days, and an alcohol abstinence monitoring order. He also made a restraining order banning him from approaching the victim again, and ordered him to pay £500 compensation.
Myers will remain on the sex offenders register for five years, and was also given a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
