Vegas Vacations, a travel agency located in Richmond that was recently shut down, is being investigated by police after complaints from the public.

According to a release from Richmond RCMP, the detachment received multiple complaints that they paid for travel services, but those services were not received from Vegas Vacations.

Vegas Vacations used to operate in Lansdowne Centre in Richmond, and Consumer Protection BC reported that its licence was cancelled earlier this week because it didn’t have sufficient capital to operate the business.

The Richmond RCMP Economic Crime Unit has taken charge of the investigation.

RCMP investigators are liaising with CPBC, which regulates the B.C. travel industry. CPBC is also conducting its own investigation. Additionally, RCMP investigators are reviewing information to figure out if criminal offences may have occurred.

“We know that many people are feeling understandably frustrated and distressed by the situation,” said Corporal Kenneth Lau, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer, in an email to Daily Hive.

“We want to assure the community that we are taking these concerns seriously and that the investigation is ongoing. We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation and encourage those affected to remain peaceful and respectful of private property as we work through this process.”

If you feel you’ve been impacted by the travel agency, Richmond RCMP has set up a dedicated email inbox for affected customers at RichmondRCMPEC@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

RCMP says to include your name, contact information and a summary of your interactions with Vegas Vacations.

“We understand the uncertainty Vegas Vacation customers are feeling right now,” says Louise Hartland, director of public relations for CPBC, in a statement earlier this week.

“We encourage anyone who booked travel through Vegas Vacations to reach out to the airline, hotel, and any other travel provider they believe their travel was booked with to confirm their reservations,” Hartland added.
