Collisions across the region as snow continues to fall

Snow covered and slippery roads continue to make travel treacherous this evening.

Highway 401 has been a mess in both directions with several collisions.

Most have been minor in nature though a serious crash in the eastbound lanes between Lansdowne and Mallorytown resulted in the closure of the highway and several injuries including a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

There were also closures throughout the day in the Napanee and Cobourg areas.

OPP say they had responded to nearly 100 collisions across east region as of 4 p.m. Thursday.

Lennox and Addington OPP report Deseronto Road between Old Highway 2 and Bridge Street West in Deseronto is closed due to a collision involving multiple vehicles.

One person has been transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

There was also a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2 in Trenton this afternoon believed to have involved a snow plow that injured at least one person.

OPP continue to ask people to stay off the roads if possible and if travel is absolutely necessary, to do so with extreme caution.

Snow is expected to taper off around midnight.
