A 30-per-cent increase to Canadian Content for Toronto’s Line 2 subway cars will mean more jobs in Canada, including at Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant
THUNDER BAY — The construction of Toronto’s Line 2 subway trains will mean more jobs in Canada, including Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant, according to a government announcement.
Fifty-five new TTC subway trains will be fully assembled in Canada. The contract will support 240 jobs in the city, according to the province.
The joint federal-provincial announcement was made at the city’s Alstom plant on Thursday morning.
Ottawa and Queen’s Park are each committing $950 million dollars to the purchase of the trains.
That’s an increased investment for both levels of government, which will support getting the Canadian content for the trains parts and materials up to 55 per cent.
It’s the first investment under the federal government’s new Buy Canadian policy.
