It looks like another round of extreme wintry weather is heading toward parts of southern Ontario, bringing very cold conditions, heavy snowfall and reduced visibility from Sunday into Monday.

The southern regions, including Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton and Durham, are not included in the weather advisory at this time, though conditions may change as the system develops.

Environment Canada says snow squalls are expected, bringing snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm, with locally higher totals possible. Visibility may be significantly reduced in heavy snow and local blowing snow.

Lake-effect snow off Georgian Bay is affecting parts of Ontario this morning and is expected to persist through the day. Snowfall amounts of up to 15 cm are possible in some areas today.

The lake-effect snow is forecast to strengthen again late Sunday or Monday morning, with additional accumulations of 15 to 25 cm possible. Winds gusting up to 60 km/h on Monday will create areas of blowing snow and near-zero visibility at times.

Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, and road closures are possible. Residents are advised to consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve.
