Southern Georgian Bay OPP have charged an OPP officer with impaired operation while on duty.

According to police the incident happened on Thursday January 15 when Southern Georgian Bay OPP opened an impaired operation investigation involving a member of the force.

As a result of the investigation a 39-year-old man faces operation while impaired – alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b).

The officer has been suspended with pay according to the Community Safety and Policing Act and the OPP Professional Standards Unit is conducting an internal investigation.

The accused is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
