MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — No. 1 Indiana faces off against No. 10 Miami in a historic College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday. The Hoosiers have put together one of the greatest runs in college football history, going from the losingest program in history to their first national title game. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza hopes to become the first Heisman-winning quarterback to win a national title since Joe Burrow in 2019.

The Hurricanes are the first true Cinderella of the 12-team playoff era, winning three straight games as seeded underdogs to reach the title game. Miami was the final team into the field, controversially flipping with Notre Dame in the final rankings after factoring in a head-to-head victory at the beginning of the season. Since then, they have shot to national relevance behind the stacked defensive line duo of Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor.

Miami hopes to win its first national championship since 2001 and its first since joining the ACC. Indiana, meanwhile, has never played for a title. These two teams have not played since 1966, but when they see each other once more on Monday night, one will be walking out with the coveted national championship.
