GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers will be looking for a new defensive coordinator once again. Their next one will be head coach Matt LaFleur’s fourth, entering his eighth season.
This time, the change is for a good reason, as the Miami Dolphins agreed to terms on Monday to make Hafley their next head coach. The Packers have ranked eighth in points allowed per game, ninth in yards allowed per game and 10th in takeaways over Hafley’s two seasons as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator.
“I wouldn’t say I want a say,” first-team All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons said of Green Bay’s next DC. “I would just say I’ve been around some good DCs. There’s been Dan (Quinn), ‘Zim’ (Mike Zimmer) and ‘Haf.’ I’ve been blessed in my career. I’d just say bring someone who cares about the players. I just want someone the players can relate to, that we want to risk it all for. We’re in battle together, whether you’re up in the booth and you’re leading the charge or whether you’re on the field leading the charge. We’re all together, so I just want to be in battle with someone who wants to go to battle with us.”
The Packers don’t appear to be wasting time seeking a replacement as Eagles defensive backs coach and pass-game coordinator Christian Parker will be interviewed, as reported by Jordan Schultz.
Who are some other options for LaFleur to hire to call plays for Parsons, second-team All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney, standout linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and others next season?
Here are 10 potential candidates.
Raheem Morris, former Atlanta Falcons head coach
The Falcons fired Morris after just two seasons and his second consecutive 8-9 campaign. Morris, 49, previously coached under Sean McVay as the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023 and won a Super Bowl in his first season. Morris and LaFleur have coached on the same staff for four seasons. In 2012 and 2013, Morris was Washington’s defensive backs coach and LaFleur the quarterbacks coach. In 2015 and 2016, Morris was the Falcons’ assistant head coach, defensive pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach while LaFleur served as quarterbacks coach. LaFleur has called Morris “one of his closest friends” and “my guy.”
Al Harris, Chicago Bears defensive pass game coordinator and DBs coach
Harris has a proven track record as a coach. Harris helped the Cowboys’ defense rank third in the NFL from 2020 to 2024 with 82 interceptions as the defensive backs coach. In 2025, he helped the Bears lead the NFL with 23 interceptions. Harris, 51, is also a member of the Packers Hall of Fame. He played seven seasons in Green Bay from 2003 to 2010, amassing 14 interceptions, 87 passes defensed and two Pro Bowl nods.
Christian Parker, Philadelphia Eagles defensive pass game coordinator and DBs coach
Parker, 34, helped cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell become first-team All Pros in just their second season this year. He also helped the Eagles rank first in passing yards allowed per game last season en route to a Super Bowl title. Parker interviewed for the Packers’ defensive coordinator job before LaFleur hired Hafley. He also served as a defensive quality control coach in Green Bay for LaFleur’s first two seasons as head coach.
“He’s a guy that I hold in high regard just by the quality of work that he did when he was here with us,” LaFleur said of Parker before facing the Eagles this season. “Obviously, he’s gotten a lot more experience now, and I think just whenever we go against a secondary that he’s coaching, I mean, they are fundamentally sound. They challenge you. So I think he’s a really good up-and-coming coach and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he gets his opportunity to become a coordinator in this league.”
Jim Leonhard, Denver Broncos assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator
Leonhard, a Wisconsin native and former Wisconsin Badger, told the Wisconsin State Journal in 2021 that he turned down the Packers defensive coordinator job (before they hired Joe Barry) because he wasn’t ready to return to the NFL. He was the Badgers’ defensive coordinator at the time, but has coached under Sean Payton in Denver for the last two seasons. The Broncos ranked seventh in passing yards allowed per game this season, and LaFleur could have another go at Leonhard now that he’s back in the NFL.
Zach Orr, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator
The Packers reportedly offered Orr their defensive coordinator job before Hafley, but he turned it down for a promotion on the Ravens’ defensive staff. Now that John Harbaugh is out in Baltimore, Orr is available, too. That could be a moot point if Orr, 33, is set on joining Harbaugh with the New York Giants. The Ravens ranked 18th in scoring defense this season, 24th in yards allowed per game and tied for 15th in takeaways.
Dennard Wilson, Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator
The Packers reportedly interviewed Wilson before hiring Hafley, as well, and with the Titans bringing in a new head coach, he’s also available. Wilson, 43, reportedly interviewed for the Washington Commanders defensive coordinator opening already this offseason. The Titans ranked 28th in scoring defense, 21st in yards allowed per game and tied for 26th in takeaways this season.
DeMarcus Covington, Packers defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator
Covington just finished his first season in Green Bay, during which the Packers ranked 18th in rushing yards allowed per game. Covington previously called plays in 2024 as the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator under Jerod Mayo, but wasn’t retained by Mike Vrabel. Covington, 36, already interviewed for the New York Jets defensive coordinator job and was reportedly requested to do the same for the Dallas Cowboys.

Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator
Flores, 44, isn’t under contract with the Vikings next season. Could he leave Minnesota, even though head coach Kevin O’Connell said he “absolutely” wants Flores to stay? If so, he could be a name to watch for the Packers. LaFleur would certainly sleep better not having to game plan against Flores twice a year.
“I think Flores is one of the best in the business and he is so good at what he does,” LaFleur said before facing the Vikings in Week 18.
Sean McDermott, former Buffalo Bills head coach
The defensive-minded McDermott was one of only four head coaches entering Monday who had been with their teams longer than LaFleur. He could very well get another head-coaching job this cycle, but the 51-year-old is worth a look for defensive coordinator if he doesn’t.
Bobby Babich, Bills defensive coordinator
The Packers reportedly requested to interview Babich two years ago, but he remained in Buffalo for a promotion to call plays under McDermott. With staff turnover in Buffalo, Babich, 42, could be on the move. The Bills ranked 12th in scoring defense, seventh in yards allowed per game and tied for 15th in takeaways.
