2″ – 5″ of snow expected Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Western New York and will continue until 7am Thursday morning, and for the northern PA counties of McKean and Potter until 10am Tuesday. This system will deliver widespread snow to the area with total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches likely.

It will also be on the windy side with wind gusts as highest to around 35 mph which could cause blowing and drifting snow.

The snow will begin early in the afternoon and will continue through the evening commute Wednesday. Roads may become slippery and there will be some reduced visibilities due to blowing snow at times.

Periods of snow will continue overnight and into the Thursday morning commute as well, anticipate wintry travel conditions.

More snow showers will move through Thursday and Friday, mostly scattered, resulting in manageable additional snow accumulations. Some additional bands of lake effect snow could develop, especially late Thursday into Friday where areas south of Buffalo could pick up closer to half a foot or more of additional snow through the end of the week.

We are expecting a shot of arctic air to reach us by later Friday and carry through Saturday night. Highs will fall back into the low teens and single digits.

Anticipate wind chills Saturday morning to drop close to 20 below zero for many of us, with sub-zero feels like temperatures continuing through the day.

A Weather Impact Alert has been issued to cover the potentially dangerous cold Friday night through Saturday night for our area.
