Government and the man who was running the province’s health care system, and was working to transform it, have parted ways.

Dr. Pat Parfrey was handpicked by then-premier Andrew Furey to write the Health Accord, a multi-year effort which would shift the focus to the social determinants of health. Elizabeth Davis was co-chair.

Parfrey was first appointed as the top bureaucrat in the Department of Health, then tasked a year ago to run the newly formed Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services.

One of his heaviest challenges was to convert the current health system to one which would be more technology-based through CorCare, which is scheduled to be implemented in April.
