St. David Catholic Secondary School in Waterloo is set to be the site of significant investment from the provincial government.

Officials from Premier Doug Ford’s government, including Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris, were in Waterloo on Friday morning to announce an investment of $17.8 million to build an addition to the school.

“This $17.8 million expansion at St. David Catholic Secondary School is great news for Waterloo students and families,” said Harris. “It adds hundreds of new spaces and modern classrooms, ensuring local students are learning in environments that prepare them for future careers as our community continues to grow.”

St. David Secondary is one of 12 schools in the province getting funding to expand spaces across growing Ontario communities.

The population of that school is set to increase by 414 when the addition is completed, a significant jump from the current attendance of just around 1,000.

“The addition to St. David’s Catholic Secondary School is an important investment Waterloo’s growing community,” said Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe in a press release. “As families continue to choose Waterloo as their home, creating space for every student to learn, grow and thrive is essential. We appreciate the province continuing to invest in Waterloo – a vibrant, future-ready place where investments make a lasting impact.”

The province has committed to invest $23 billion over the next decade into supporting new construction and renewal of schools in Ontario.
