A tragic incident unfolded Thursday afternoon as a teenage boy and a young girl drowned in the Wabigoon River near Dryden, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.
Emergency services rushed to the scene Thursday evening but were unable to save a teen and pre-teen who drowned while swimming in the Wabigoon River in Dryden.
Dryden OPP are investigating the drowning incident that claimed the lives of two children.
On Thursday, July 31 at 4:10 pm, officers responded to a report of two youths seen entering the Wabigoon River.  A 15-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl did not resurface from the water.
The OPP Emergency Response Team, Dryden Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services attended the location to assist. Both children were located and recovered from the water by emergency personnel. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
The identity of the victims is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
