Sean O’Malley might be heading into his bantamweight fight against Song Yadong on the back of two defeats by Merab Dvalishvili, but it did not stop him having the most peaceful year he’s ever had in 2025.
The American fought once last year where he was submitted by Dvalishvili in June, before taking a step back to enjoy other areas of his life.
O’Malley became a father for the second time, and also took some time away from social media.
“Just because I
lost a fight doesn’t mean you suck. It doesn’t mean I had a bad year, it was a great
year, the most peaceful I ever had,” O’Malley told BBC Sport.
“I got off social media – Instagram,
Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook. That’s what really made that change of peace.
Fighting is still as important as before, I just have more peace.”
