CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte area is bracing for a major ice storm that will bring sleet, snow and freezing rain to the region this weekend. The biggest threats will be ice accumulation that could lead to downed trees, widespread power outages and treacherous travel conditions across North Carolina and South Carolina.Â

Flight delays

Harris Teeter closing stores earlyÂ
Harris Teeter announced many of its stores will close at 8 p.m. Saturday due to the storm’s impacts. The company hopes to reopen stores at 8 a.m. Sunday, weather permitting.Â
