TTC Senior Communications Advisor Susan Nguyen provides an update on transit service across the city and issues affecting Eglinton and Bloor on Line 1.

A record-setting snowstorm in Toronto is wreaking havoc on the Monday morning commute as some areas were pummeled with nearly 60 cm of accumulation on Sunday.

Here’s a look at how transit agencies, airports, and roads are being affected by the conditions.

TTC

After service was suspended on most of the west side of Line 2 this morning, the TTC says trains are now running east from Islington Station.

Speaking to CP24, TTC spokesperson Susan Nguyen said its recovery effort is in “full swing,” but warned that there are still “major gaps” in service due to the storm.

Service remains suspended between Kipling and Islington stations, as well as between Woodbine and Kennedy stations on Line 2.

There’s still no service between Eglinton and Bloor-Yonge stations or St. Clair West and Sheppard West stations on Line 1.

The entirety of the Finch West LRT is also closed.

“We do have shuttle busses running on those lines to keep customers moving… we’re working hand in hand with the city to dig ourselves out of the snow this morning, on the surface, we’re trying to provide as much service as possible, as best we can,” she said.

Pearson

Pearson saw 46 centimetres of snow following the storm, which duty manager Andre Nadeau says has effectively cut the airport’s departure rate in half.

Pearson’s departures portal shows that at least 12 flights have been cancelled Monday morning.

Nadeau says Pearson is planning for a “multi-day recovery” to clear the snow and get operations back up to speed.

“There’s still a lot of snow that that is accumulated on the airfield and on the apron. So, it’s really getting that out of the way, and it will be full swing operation. Hopefully by tomorrow,” he told CP24.

On a post to its website, Pearson says that passengers should check their flight status with their airline before coming to the airport as the winter weather is impacting flight operations, and schedules may change throughout the day.

GO Transit

GO Transit says customers on some of its busiest routes will experience slowdowns Monday morning.

The transit agency is reporting “significant” delays on its Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, and Kitchener lines, with delays of up to 15 minutes in some areas.

Minor delays are also being reported on the Richmond Hill and Barrie lines.

Some surface routes are being impacted by the storm and buses are bypassing some stops due to the conditions. Check here for updates.

The transit agency says it’s running a special schedule today due to the winter storm and customers are advised to visit this landing page to see how their route may be affected.

Don Valley Parkway

Toronto police are warning drivers that the ramp from the Don Valley Parkway south to the Gardiner Expressway is “very slippery” this morning and urged them to drive carefully.

“Slow down, give yourself lots of space and use extreme caution when driving in this area,” they said in a post to X.
