One 16-year-old girl was killed and another was injured after the sled they were both riding on collided with a tree.

FRISCO, Texas — Frisco Independent School District officials on Monday identified the 16-year-old girl who was killed after police say a sled she and another teen were riding on struck a curb and collided with a tree.

Elizabeth Angle, the victim who died, was a sophomore at Wakeland High School, according to a letter sent to Wakeland parents on Monday.

Police were called at about 2:26 p.m. Sunday to the area of Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. Upon arrival, officials say police and firefighters found the two victims and immediately provided medical attention. They were then taken to local hospitals, where one of them later died from her injuries.

The other victim, whose name has not been released, is still in critical condition, police said.

The Frisco ISD letter said Angle played soccer and was “well-liked by peers and teachers.”

“Our entire campus community is impacted by this tragedy,” the letter said.

When Frisco schools are back in session, they will acknowledge her death during the second period, officials said. The district will also provide support to students in the days to come. District and campus counselors will be available to meet with students.

According to police, their initial investigation showed a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep Wrangler that was pulling the two girls on a sled. Witnesses told police the sled struck a curb and collided into a tree.

Police are still investigating the incident with help from the Denton County District Attorney’s Office.
