A 56-year-old Hamilton woman is facing numerous charges after allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from a local non-profit organization.

In a release, Hamilton police said approximately $72,000 was allegedly embezzled from a fundraising account belonging to Rygiel Supports for Community Living.

Community Living is an organization that supports people with developmental disabilities.

Police said the funds were embezzled between 2021 to 2023.

Viola Galamini, 56, of Hamilton, was arrested on Jan. 22 and charged with criminal breach of trust, fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and use of a forged document.

Galamini was released on an undertaking, police said, and is scheduled to appear in court in April.
