Heavy rain has now cleared away from south-west England and south Wales
with a few squally showers following. The Met Office amber rain warning for that area, as we reported, lifted at 09:00 GMT.
Other yellow rain warnings across the south of England and Wales will have
all expired by midday today.
Further north, as precipitation meets colder air, it will
fall as snow over higher ground on the northern edge of the system.
Yellow snow
warnings have been issued for Scotland and northern England – more on those here – where 2 to 5cm is
expected widely within the warning areas.
It’s been very windy this morning, with the heavy rain
and winds expected to remain strong and gusty throughout this afternoon.
An amber wind warning across Northern Ireland is expected to expire at around 21:00.
After midday today, rain with hill snow will be confined
to Scotland and north-east England, with bright or sunny spells and blustery
showers for most of the UK.
It will remain blustery for all, with the strongest gusts in the west – around the Irish Sea coasts and
Northern Ireland.
