A teenage labourer has appeared in court accused of manslaughter after the death of a woman outside a North Tyneside bar. Liam Moor allegedly killed Lisa Denton following a suspected one-punch attack near Charlie’s Bar, in North Shields, at around 10pm on Saturday, January 24.
Lisa, 40, also from the town, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital but sadly died the following morning. Moor, of Telford Street, in East Howdon, but now living outside the North Tyneside area, was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
The 19-year-old, who works as a labourer on a building site, appeared in the dock at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 27. Wiping back tears, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and his bail address.
Because of the seriousness the charge, no plea was taken. Clare Haswell, prosecuting, said Moor allegedly assaulted Lisa by punching her once outside of Charlie’s Bar.
Miss Haswell added: “This is indictable only. The Crown would seek to apply to release the defendant on conditional bail.” Mark Harrison, defending, said conditions of bail had been agreed, adding: “This is a tragic incident, however it’s regarded.”

Magistrates agreed to release Moor on conditional bail, where he must abide by an electronically-monitored curfew between 9pm and 7am, stay out of a certain area of North Shields, which will also be monitored by an electronic tag, and report to Bedlington Police Station once a week. He must also not communicate with prosecution witnesses.
Chairing magistrate, Robert Waddell, said: “Your next appearance will be at Newcastle Crown Court. We can’t deal with this offence at the magistrates’ court, so you will be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court.
“Your next appearance will be there on February 24 at 10am. In the meantime, what we had to consider in this court, is what happens to you in the interim period.
“On the basis of what has been represented to us this morning, you will be given conditional bail.”

As previously reported following the incident, a woman, aged in her 50s, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Atherton, said earlier this week: “This is an incredibly tragic incident where a woman has sadly lost her life. Our thoughts remain firmly with Lisa’s loved ones at this time. We will continue to support them as they try to navigate a life without Lisa.”
He added: “With proceedings now active, we would ask that the public avoid speculation, both online and in the community, and respect the ongoing legal process.”
